MIAMI, Florida (October 10, 2011)—The Inter American Press Association (IAPA) Scholarship Fund today announced the start of the period in which journalists throughout the Western Hemisphere can apply for scholarships for postgraduate study in Latin America, North America or the Caribbean.
The scholarships, each worth $20,000, cover a university academic year for Latin American or Caribbean journalists to study at recognized journalism schools in the United States or Canada, while American scholarship recipients do so at universities in Latin America or the Caribbean.
Applicants should be journalists or students in the final year of study at a school of journalism, be aged between 21 and 35 and be fluent in the language of the country where they will go to further their studies.
The deadline for submitting applications is January 31, 2012. Those to be awarded scholarships will be chosen during the IAPA’s Midyear Meeting to be held April 20-23 next year in Cádiz, Spain.
“We invite journalism students and young news men and women to submit their application and take advantage of this opportunity to train and widen their professional knowledge,” said the chairman of the IAPA Scholarship Fund’s Board of Governors, Jorge Andrés Saieh of Copesa, Chile.
Since the establishment of the Scholarship Fund in 1954 the program has benefited some 400 journalists in the Americas.
