HAITI There is no press freedom in Haiti. Following the military coup against President Aristide, the situation of the media has worsened considerably. Although newspapers are not censored, they follow the government line. Radio, traditionally the most independent and important medium in the country, has been severely affected. Several radio stations have been shut down, and in some cases their equipment destroyed.
