MEXICO I WHEREAS the Chamber of Deputies, the lower house of Mexico's Congress, is currently considering a draft bill on the media which, if approved, would harm the constitutionally guaranteed freedoms of expression and of the press five journalists face trial for publishing comments about an opinion poll five days before an election THE IAPA GENERAL ASSEMBLY RESOLVES to repudiate any legislative bill whose aim is to restrict the free flow of information in Mexico to write to the Chamber of Deputies to express the IAPA's concern over the draft bill under consideration by that legislative body's Radio and Television Committee and to request that suggestions, arguments and information provided by the media be taken into account by legislators to write to the Mexican Supreme Court and attorney general's office to protest the prosecution of five journalists in Puerto Vallarta, ]alisco, who are currently free on bail.
