PERU I WHEREAS in Peru intimidation of journalists has reached a serious level this level of intimidation led to the visit of a special OAS mission the members of the OAS mission and the editor of the daily La Republica received death threats with his life endangered, journalist Jose Arrieta had to leave the country and seek asylum in the United States a large number of Peruvian journalists are continually harassed and berated for publishing information critical of the government and especially unlawful activities of intelligence agents it is possible that the intelligence service could be among those responsible THE IAPA GENERAL ASSEMBLY RESOLVES to urge Peruvian President Alberto Fujimori to establish who might be responsible for intimidating and threatening independent journalists and to set an example by punishing them in a manner that would allow for the free and safe practice of journalism in Peru.
