WORLD PRESS FREEDOM DAY
WHEREAS
the United Nations has declared May 3 World Press Freedom Day and the Executive Committee of the Inter American Press Association at its St. Petersburg, Florida, meeting in March 1995, approved the adoption of this date to replace the IAPA's traditional date for the celebration, June 7 other organizations have made a similar decision
THE GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE IAPA RESOLVES
to declare May 3 Press Freedom Day celebrated by the Inter American Press Association, effective in 1996
to urge all IAPA member newspapers to publish editorials and articles explaining the importance of the date and the defense of press freedom to suggest to national press organizations in the countries represented in the IAPA that they adopt May 3 as Press Freedom Day, if they have not already done so.
