He spent his year of study at the Universidad Nacional Autonoma de Mexico. Later he was editor of The Corsicana Daily Sun, Corsicana, Texas. He wrote that the year in Mexico “broadened my understanding of and interest in Latin American activities, and their importance to the United States. It has helped me both in my editorial and column writing in accurately portraying Mexico and its problems to my fellow Texans.”
From Colombia, he studied at Boston University, has been working steadily in journalism since then and later was editorial writer for the daily Vanguardia Liberal, of Bucaramanga. His comment: “Thanks to the opportunity I had to study in a U.S. journalism school and to have a close-up view of life in the United States, I enjoyed one of the highest levels of my journalistic career.”
He spent his scholarship year at the Universidad de Buenos Aires, Argentina. Later he was wire editor of The Anderson Herald, Anderson, Indiana. Here is what he said: “The year in Argentina was one of the most valuable and rewarding of any experience I have had. It gave me a far greater appreciation for Latin America than I imagined possible and as wire editor of a daily newspapers, news stories from that part of the continent become especially meaningful. “
