WHEREAS:
The aggressions and threats against journalists have increased significantly.
WHEREAS:
The risk assessment studies and the measures of protection for threatened journalists show financial and administrative shortcomings.
WHEREAS:
The levels of impunity of murders against journalists continue to be very high.
WHEREAS:
Article 4 of the Declaration of Chapultepec establishes: “Freedom of expression and of the press are severely limited by murder, terrorism, kidnapping, pressure, intimidation, unjust imprisonment of journalists, destruction of facilities, violence of any kind and impunity for perpetrators.
THE 70TH IAPA GENERAL ASSEMBLY RESOLVES:
To request the government to adopt measures aimed at strengthening the financial and administrative structure of the National Protection Unit so that risk studies are conducted in a more rigorous and timelier fashion; and to ensure that protection measures are adequate and contribute to generate the conditions necessary for the exercise of journalism.
To urge the Attorney General of the Nation and the judges to bring forward with greater efficacy the investigations and processes that would allow identifying the perpetrators and the intellectual authors of murders against journalists
