IAPA announces winners of 2015 scholarships

Journalists from Venezuela and Peru have been chosen by the Inter American Press Association (IAPA) Scholarship Fund Board of Directors as winners of scholarships in 2015 for post-graduate studies in the United States.

Journalists from Venezuela and Peru have been chosen by the Inter American Press Association (IAPA) Scholarship Fund Board of Directors as winners of scholarships in 2015 for post-graduate studies in the United States.

They are Manuel Hernández Zambrano, finance editor of the Maracaibo, Venezuela, newspaper La Verdad, and Elsa Liliana Michelena, staff writer of the Lima, Peru, magazine Caretas.

The decision was made during the recent IAPA Midyear Meeting in Panama City, Panama, announced  the Fund’s Vice Chairman, Ernesto Kraiselburd, editor of El Día in La Plata, Argentina.

The IAPA Scholarship Fund, established in 1954, offers young journalists the opportunity to carry out post-graduate studies outside their countries for an academic year, contributing to a better understanding among the Americas. Journalists from Latin America and the Caribbean study at an acknowledged university in the United States or Canada and those from the United States and Canada at one in Latin America or the Caribbean.

The scholarship includes a financial stipend and round-trip airfare from the country of origin. The funds to provide the scholarships come from special contributions by IAPA members.
