The Brazilian Association of Radio and Television Broadcasters (ABERT), the National Association of Magazine Editors (ANER) and the National Association of Newspapers (ANJ) launch this Tuesday (2 August) a note in defense of democracy and two of its assumptions: freedom of the press and respect for electoral results.

The document signed by ABERT, ANER and ANJ says that, based on their principles of defending freedom of the press, opinion and information, the entities "come to the public to reaffirm their commitment to the rule of law and the sovereign decisions of the elections, endorsed by an Electoral Justice whose performance has been internationally recognized".

The note, which will be released in sync by the members of the three entities, also reinforces "the importance of the broad and independent activity of the free press in the fight against disinformation that causes so much harm to democracies". It also emphasizes that "only in environments of political freedom, solidity of institutions and full respect for the Constitution can the journalistic mission be taken to Brazilians with the scope and transparency that democracies require".
