What is the Impunity Project?

The Impunity Project, created in 1995, whose main objective is to reduce the impunity that surrounds many of the crimes against journalists.

A decisive factor for the success of the project is represented by the generous and unrestricted financial sponsorship from the John S. and James L. Knight, who has contributed a total of $ 7.7 million between 1992 and 2011, the campaign against impunity and press freedom program.

The main strategies work Impunity Project are:
  • Advocate: through missions to countries and by orders and special requests;
  • Investigate: through investigative journalists who make up the Rapid Response Unit of the SIP;
  • Promote: through a public campaign advertisements in print and electronic media to educate about impunity and demand justice;
  • Training: through seminars and conferences to help reduce the risks journalists in their professional coverage.
