Professional journalists and representatives from academia that make up the Latin American Council of Education Accreditation in Journalism (CLAEP) believe in the importance of the role of journalism in society and the need for a strong and competent training.

The main objectives of the Accreditation Council are:

• Promote effective training programs for journalists. • Collaborate in the relationship between journalism training and practice needs. • Define and achieve market acceptance of standards for journalism training. • To act as an accrediting agency journalism training programs upon request.

The Council shall consist of 12 members. Five members are professional journalists Inter American Press, journalism academics five will be elected by the Council, and two members shall be general. Professional Journalists members elect a general representative, academics choose another. General members will alternate periods between two and three years. Initially, the general grade will be eligible to serve for two terms of three years. General professional journalist may be elected to serve for two terms of two years.

The five professional members shall be appointed by the Inter American Press. The first faculty members in five countries were the members of the Organizing Committee for the American Accreditation. Members of each group will elect three representatives to exercise two periods of three years and two representatives to exercise two periods of two years. The terms of the members begin on 1. March.

The Council shall have a President and a Vice President who shall be elected from among the members of the Council. The President and Vice President of the Council may be a professional or an academic, but must be of different areas. They shall be elected for terms of three years and may serve for a maximum of two consecutive terms. All periods start on 1. March.

The Council shall have one / a Secretary / a Administrative / a and one / a Coordinator / a Academic Affairs.

In the case of failure of some of the members to continue in office, a successor shall be elected at the next meeting of the Council to replace until the end of the period.

The President shall be the principal member of the Council and shall convene meetings of the Council, the Council shall preside and conduct all its activities.

The Vice President shall preside at meetings in the absence of the President and shall provide the President MIGHT assign.

The Administrative Secretary shall prepare minutes of meetings, financial records and will work with the President in the preparation of agendas and budgets. The Coordinator of Academic Affairs will address all issues related to the processes of accreditation and re-accreditation of schools wishing to enter the program and those who already belong to it.

The Council shall meet once a year simultaneously with the assemblies and meetings of the Inter American Press. Normally, the Board will meet in the month in which is conducted the Annual Meeting of the IAPA. Decisions regarding academic accreditation will be taken at these meetings to date to be designated by the SIP. The policies and procedures of the Council also will be considered in those meetings.

Council members whose programs are under consideration for accreditation or reaccreditation may not vote at meetings where their units are considered. These Board members must leave the table but may remain in the room. May not participate during the deliberations, but will answer questions when so requirieren other Council members.

Council members who have been part of a team considered program visit may remain on the table, participate in discussions and answer questions from other members of the Council. However, it may submit additional information to that already present in the material written formal. The purpose of this standard is to create a fair and equitable for those visiting teams whose programs are not represented on the Council.

Board meetings shall be governed by parliamentary rules.

The quorum to decide is 50% of the members of the Council. Decisions are taken by simple majority.

Each Board member shall have one vote. If a regular member is unable to attend a meeting shall be entitled to be represented by an alternate, which shall be notified to the President with a minimum of 10 working days of the meeting.

Elections shall be by written ballot. Any other kind of voting shall be by voice or hands raised, except that any member request written ballot on any issue.
