IAPA elects officers for 2008-2009

MIAMI, Florida (October 13, 2008)—At its 64th General Assembly, held October 3 to 7 in Madrid, Spain, the Inter American Press Association (IAPA) chose its new slate of officers. Enrique Santos Calderón, editor of the newspaper El Tiempo, Bogotá, Colombia was elected president of the hemisphere free-press organization for a one-year term.

Enrique Santos Calderón, editor of the newspaper El Tiempo, Bogotá, Colombia was elected president of the hemisphere free-press organization for a one-year term.

Accompanying Santos will be Scott C. Schurz, of the Herald-Times, Bloomington, Indiana, Honorary Life President; Alejandro J. Aguirre, Diario Las Américas, Miami, Florida, 1st Vice-Presidente; Gonzalo Marroquín, 2nd Vice-Presidente, Prensa Libre, Guatemala; Milton Coleman, The Washington Post, Washington, DC., treasurer; Elizabeth Ballantine, The Durango Herald, Durango, Colorado, secretary and Julio E. Muñoz, executive director.

Executive Committee chairman is Juan Luis Correa, La Estrella, El Siglo, Panama, Republic of Panama, and vice chairman is Earl Maucker, Sun-Sentinel, Fort Lauderdale, Florida.
