Miami (December 8, 2011)—The Inter American Press Association (IAPA) today announced the appointment of the regional vice chairmen of its Committee on Freedom of the Press and Information who will be responsible for monitoring violations of press freedom and freedom of expression during the 2011-2012 period.
IAPA President Milton Coleman in October had named Gustavo Mohme, editor of the Lima, Peru, newspaper La República, as chairman of the Committee, which has two general vice chairmen, Roberto Rock of El Universal of Mexico and David Natera of Correo del Caroní of Venezuela.
Among their responsibilities the regional vice chairmen have the role of preparing their countries’ press freedom reports, which are presented at the IAPA’s twice-yearly membership meetings that are generally held in March and October each year. The organization’s next meeting will take place April 20-23, 2012 in Cádiz, Spain.
