Determined to put an end to such impunity and in unison with the international community we take the liberty of calling your attention to the case of American journalist Philip True, Mexico correspondent of the San Antonio Express-News.

Miami, Florida, May 27, 2008 Mr. Felipe Calderón President of Mexico Los Pinos Official Residence Mexico City, Mexico cc: Attorney General of Mexico Mr. President, For several years now the Inter American Press Association (IAPA) has been investigating murders of journalists in the Americas and has come to the conclusion that in some cases not even the right to justice has been observed and in others negligence, apathy and irregularities in the official investigations have been obstacles that have helped those responsible for the crimes going unpunished. Determined to put an end to such impunity and in unison with the international community we take the liberty of calling your attention to the case of American journalist Philip True, Mexico correspondent of the San Antonio Express-News. He was found dead on December 16, 1998 in the Sierra Madre Occidental mountains in Jalisco state. The two persons convicted of his murder are at large. We request, Mr. President, that you intervene with the relevant police departments so that the murderers may be put behind bars and carry our their sentences. Only in this way will the death of Philip True not remain just another statistic in the list of unsolved murders in the Western Hemisphere. Sincerely,
