IAPA begins meeting this Tuesday on press freedom and sustainability of the media

Miami (April 18, 2022) - With a meeting open to the public and free of charge, the Inter American Press Association will begin its mid-year meeting this Tuesday. Through a virtual conference, the organization will address press freedom violations and discuss the sustainability of the media after the pandemic.

The conference will begin this April 19 at 10 a.m. (Miami time), and will run through Thursday. The meeting will be opened by IAPA President Jorge Cahanuati, Grupo OPSA, Honduras.

The Committee on Freedom of the Press and Information will review the aggressions suffered by journalists and attacks against the media in all the countries of the region in the last semester. Also this April 19, the IAPA will approve a special declaration and plan of action on Nicaragua, to which more than 25 national and international press organizations have already adhered.

Canahuati will present the Chapultepec Award to the Foundation for Press Freedom (FLIP) for its outstanding and effective work in monitoring respect for freedom of expression in Colombia.

The working sessions include panels on press freedom violations, testimonies of relatives of imprisoned Nicaraguan journalists and on the future of the media, with presentations on different alternatives on media sustainability that are being addressed in Canada, the U.S., Europe and Brazil.
