The Global Disinformation Summit 2025 brought together more than 500 participants on its opening day

The Global Disinformation Summit 2025 kicked off with over five hundred participants connected simultaneously from around the world, in a first day marked by key reflections on the risks of disinformation and the challenges facing journalism.

In her remarks, Cristina Tardáguila (Agência Lupa, Brazil) emphasized: “The idea is to open a space for discussion between those who observe and those who investigate, in order to build more integral and ethical responses, connected to the future.”

Meanwhile, Sara Estévez (Newtral, Spain) warned: “When lies travel faster than fact-checking, public trust and safety are at risk.”

From South Africa, Branko Brkic (Daily Maverick) delivered a powerful message: “Choose truth, choose facts. This world is worth fighting for. Because together we are stronger.”

Day 2: What’s ahead

Today, the conversation continues with a program featuring international experts, dialogue sessions, panels, and project showcases on key topics such as:

  • Journalistic strategies against disinformation
  • Scope and challenges of fact-checking
  • Monitoring false narratives
  • Foreign Information Manipulation and Interference (FIMI) and its impact on democracies
  • Global scams and how to dismantle them
  • Funding session to strengthen journalism and reliable information
