WHEREAS Rafael Molina Morillo, a great friend and leader with an outstanding trajectory in the IAPA, journalist, lawyer, professor and diplomat, died on April 2 in Santo Domingo, Dominican Republic

WHEREAS Molina Morillo served as IAPA President from 2006 to 2007, as editor of El Nacional of Santo Domingo, Dominican Republic, was also founder and editor of Revista Ahora magazine and editor of the newspapers Listín Diario and El Caribe

WHEREAS for several years he also served as chairman of the organization's Committee on Freedom of the Press and Information and was a member of the Board of Directors

WHEREAS on learning of his death and recalling his outstanding trajectory in the organization the participants in the Midyear Meeting in Antigua, his friends and colleagues dedicated a lengthy ovation to him

WHEREAS the officers, directors and members of the IAPA showed consternation at the loss of their friend and colleague

WHEREAS he was one of the greatest defenders and promoters of the principles contained in the Declaration of Chapultepec

THE IAPA MIDYEAR MEETING RESOLVES

to express sincere condolences to his wife Francia, his daughters and sons, and family members and Dominican colleagues

to honor our dear friend, who will always be remembered in our organization as a paladin of fundamental rights to freedom of expression and freedom of the press in the Americas.
