IAPA extends deadline for journalism scholarship applications

MIAMI, Florida (January 16, 2018)–The Inter American Press Association (IAPA) Scholarship Fund today announced the extension to February 15 for journalists of the Americas to apply for postgraduate study scholarships in Latin America, the Caribbean or North America.

The scholarships, worth $20,000 each, cover one university academic year for Latin American or Caribbean journalists to study at schools of journalism in the Americas, while North American scholarship recipients should do so at Latin American or Caribbean universities.

Applicants should be journalists, be aged between 21 and 35, and be fluent in the language of the country where they are going to study. "We invite young journalists throughout the hemisphere to take advantage of this opportunity for training in the profession by applying for the IAPA scholarships," said the chair of the IAPA Scholarship Fund's Board of Governors, María Catalina Saieh, director of Copesa, Chile.

Since the founding of the Scholarship Fund in 1954 the IAPA program has been of benefit to more than 400 journalists of the Americas. Applicants to be awarded the scholarships will be chosen during the IAPA Midyear Meeting to be held in April this year in Medellín, Colombia.
