WHEREAS in the Assembly's first panel discussion, titled "Climate Change: New Journalistic Genre," attendees heard the correct interventions of Curtis Morgan and Alex Harris, Miami Herald Media Company, Miami, Florida, Eumano Silva, Metrópoles, Brasilia, Brazil, and Jenny Staletovich, WLRN-News, Miami, Florida, with Alejandro J. Aguirre in the role of moderator

WHEREAS during the Friday luncheon IAPA President María Elvira Domínguez presented the Presidential Award to Edward Seaton, Seaton Newspapers, Manhattan, Kansas, and the awardee emotionally gave thanks for this annual recognition of distinguished IAPA leaders

WHEREAS in Friday afternoon's first panel discussion Úrsula Freundt Thume, Universidad Peruana de Ciencias Aplicadas, Peru, Daniel Barredo, Universidad del Rosario, Colombia, and Jorge Hidalgo, Universidad Anahuac México Norte, Mexico spoke with experience and composure in the session titled "Academic Investigation, Innovation, Challenges for Journalism" moderated by Susan Mitchel, Consejo Latinoamericano para la Acreditación de la Enseñanza en Periodismo (CLAEP), Buenos Aires, Argentina

WHEREAS the panel discussion "Artificial Intellligence, News Media and Audiences" told attendees of the new technological advances applied to the news industry and the presentations made by Alyssa Zeisler, The Wall Street Journal, New York, John Keefe, Quartz Media, New York, and Paul Cheuno, John S. & James L. Knight Foundation, were moderated by Alejandro José Lorenzo Edreida, Protecmedia, Madrid, Spain

WHEREAS Marcelo Finkelbrg and Moacyr Alves Jr, GrowPro, Córdoba, Argentina, had in their charge the presentation titled "eSports: Excellent Content to Monetize" in which they referred to the increase of sports in the virtual world and how news media are taking advantage of this, and Ernesto Kraiselburd, El Día, La Plata, Argentina, was the moderator

WHEREAS in the presentation of the 2019 Awards for Journalstic Excellence there was shown a video on awarded journalists and their winning works, produced by the firm Televisa, and the participants attended an Assembly inauguration cocktail party on one of the Biltmore Hotel terraces

WHEREAS on Saturday morning Andrés Canizalez, Universidad Católica Andrés Bello (UCAB), Caracas, Venezuela, and Edison Lanza, Inter-American Commission on Human Rights, spoke about the first results of the Chapultepec Index and about the significance of this IAPA project for press freedom in the hemisphere, and the editor of the Bogotá, Colombia, newspaper El Tiempo, Roberto Pombo, was the moderator of the session

WHEREAS during the Saturday luncheon Edward Seaton presented his book "Heroes and Scoundrels" with memories and accounts of his experiences as a reporter, editor and promoter of press freedom in the Americas, and former IAPA president Diana Daniels was in charge of introducing the author

WHEREAS Eric Iriarte, Iriarte & Asociados, Lima, Peru, and David Chavem, News Media Alliance, Reston, Virginia, spoke of authors' contents and rights in the digital age and the perspective regarding those issues in the IAPA's Salta Declaration, and Martín Etchevers, Clarín, Buenos Aires, Argentina, was the moderator of the session

WHEREAS on Saturday evening with the reception and dinner aboard the Floridian Princess yacht participants enjoyed a trip through Miami Bay in an atmosphere of partying and friendship, and the words of welcome were given by Fernando Gómez Carpintero, Protecmedia, Madrid, Spain

WHEREAS on Sunday morning in a panel discussion on the future of news, there distinguished the IAPA assembly with their participation American news executives Craig Forman, McClatchy, Sacramento, California; Martin Baron, The Washington Post, Washington DC; Sally Buzbee, The Associated Press, New York and David Chavern, News Media Alliance, Reston, Virginia, and the session was moderated by Pierre Manigault, Evening Post Industries, Charleston, South Carolina

WHEREAS before a large audience journalist and author Andrés Oppenheimer, Miami Herald Media Company, presented and signed copies of his latest book "¡Sálvase quien pueda!" about the impact of robotics on society, and Fernán Saguier, La Nación, Buenos Aires, Argentina, introduced the author

WHEREAS the mayor of Saltillo, Coahuila state, Mexico, Manolo Jiménez Salinas, urged the Assambly attendees not to fail to attend the IAPA Midyear Meeting to be held in March 2020 in that hospitable region of northern Mexico, and at the luncheon sponsored by the same municipal government also present was Blas Flores, Saltilo Director of Tourism and Economy

WHEREAS in the panel discussion "Infowars" Keren Goldshlager, Facebook, New York, and Baybars Orsek, Poynter Institute, St Petersburg, Florida, explained the different scenarios where there is carried out the fight against false news and misinformation, and Christopher Barnes, The Gleaner, Kingston, Jamaica, was the moderator

WHEREAS the IAPA's 75th anniversary dinner in the Vizcaya Museum and Gardens was the historic occasion to pay homage to former IAPA president Argentina Hills, who in 1977 was the first woman in that position, and in the course of the evening there were the words of the president of the John S. and James L. Knight Foundation, Alberto Ibargüen, and former IAPA president and former editor of The Miami Herald, David Lawrence, and the night ended in an atmophere of partying and joy

WHEREAS on Monday morning U.S. Senator Marco Rubio, a member of the Senate Foreign Affairs Committee, came before the Assembly to speak of the perspectives of the United States foreign policy regarding hemispheric actuality

WHEREAS former presidents Jamil Mahuad of Ecuador and Laura Chinchilla of Costa Rica took part in the interesting panel discussion "Are Social Media a Threat to Democracy?" and Asdrúbal Aguiar, IDEA, Miami, Florida, acted as moderator

WHEREAS Richard Gingras, Google News, New York, gave a talk of great interest for news media representated at the Assembly and he was inrtroduced by Gustau Alegret, NTN24, Washington, DC

WHEREAS journalist Jorge Ramos spoke about the dilemma of the modern press in the face of growing obstacles to democracty under the txitle "Journalism Or How To Avoid Being a Dinosaur" and Martha Ramos, of the Organización Editorial Mexicana (OEM) was the introducer of the speaker

WHEREAS the EFE news agency hosted the closing luncheon on Monday afternoon

THE 75th GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE IAPA RESOLVES

to express on the part of its president, its officers, directors and members it deepest gratitude and appreciation to the people and companies that contributed to and supported the holding of the successful IAPA 75th General Assembly.
