Peruvian media and journalists are harassed with criminal and civil lawsuits

Miami (April 16, 2020) .- The Inter American Press Association's semi-annual press freedom report on Peru indicates that in the country the lawsuits against journalists have increased and the whereabouts of Daysi Mina Huamán, of the Cable VRAEM channel, Ayacucho, remain unknown since January 26, 2020.

The report adds that the crimes of libel and slander continue to be criminal in nature and that several lawsuits for millions of dollars affect the media and journalists.

The IAPA is a non-profit organization dedicated to the defense and promotion of freedom of the press and expression in the Americas. It is made up of more than 1,300 publications from the Western Hemisphere; and is based in Miami, Florida, United States.
