WHEREAS that President Javier Milei, in public speeches, television interviews, and through his X account, continues to attack and discredit journalists, accusing them of corruption
WHEREAS that, in his most aggressive public speech since taking office, the President recently encouraged his followers to insult journalists
CONSIDERING that the President's accusations against the press lead to attacks that multiply on social media
WHEREAS that insults and discrediting from anonymous, fake, or government-affiliated militant accounts against journalists and media outlets are increasing
WHEREAS that stigmatization can lead to self-censorship and acts of physical violence
WHEREAS that the Special Rapporteur for Freedom of Expression of the Inter-American Commission on Human Rights warns that stigmatization undermines public debate
WHEREAS that the Chapultepec Declaration, in its sixth article, states: "The media and journalists should not be subject to discrimination or favors based on what they write or say."

To highlight that stigmatization promotes forms of physical violence and increases fragmentation and polarization in societies
To urge the government to cease verbal attacks
To urge the government to respect the principles of freedom of expression, the role of journalism in democracy, and to preserve public debate.
