Miami (June 3, 2025) – The Inter American Press Association (IAPA) will bring together key figures from the media ecosystem for a new edition of SIPConnect, its annual conference on innovation, sustainability, and digital transformation.
The event will take place from July 16 to 18 in Miami and promises to be a vital space to reflect on and explore the future of journalism in a time of technological disruption, artificial intelligence, and democratic challenges.
Under the theme “Reinventing the Future of Media,” SIPConnect 2025 will offer a robust, diverse, and hands-on program structured around three pillars: Explore, Co-Create, and Connect. Over three days, the event will feature keynote speeches, panel discussions, live demonstrations, and interactive workshops with the participation of editorial leaders, technologists, entrepreneurs, academics, and representatives from public, private, and independent media across the Americas and Spain.
The conference will open with a keynote by Dale R. Anglin, Director of Press Forward, who will discuss new strategies to support local media with a purposeful innovation lens. Daniel Coronell, President of Univision Noticias, will follow with insights into the relationship between digital transformation and democracy.
SIPConnect will also spotlight disruptive experiences transforming the industry. Presentations by Gerardo Castilla (Vanguardia, Mexico), Carlos Salas (El Comercio, Peru), and Gastón Roitberg (La Nación, Argentina) will offer powerful ideas on new digital strategies and the use of AI in editorial approaches.
Rodrigo Bonilla from the Google News Initiative will present outcomes and lessons from the Digital Revenue Accelerator, a SIP program supported by Google to strengthen media sustainability in Latin America. With technical support from Marktube Group, the program helps participants improve inventory and ad delivery, diversify revenue streams, and use data to optimize performance.
One of the event’s panels will explore the application of AI and tech innovation in public interest media. Panelists include Jonathan Bock (FLIP, Colombia) and Andrés D’Alessandro (ADEPA, Argentina), moderated by consultant Néstor Altuve.
Altuve will also lead a hands-on workshop titled Sustainable Models in the Age of AI, offering a roadmap to reinvent media business models with a focus on monetization, cost reduction, revenue diversification, and long-term sustainability.
Claudio Cabrera (The Athletic) and Aldana Vales (Director of Audiences at Gannett, USA Today) will explore audience personalization and content strategies for growth and loyalty. Mauricio Cabrera, creator of Story Baker, will give a presentation on immersive storytelling and impactful content.
Another highlight will be a keynote by Daniel Hadad, founder of Infobae, on reinventing journalism in the age of AI. His address will be followed by a talk from Mariano Blejman, creator of SmartStory.ai, who will talk about how, in a context marked by misinformation and automated content, it is key to strengthen human ties and build strong communities around the creation of content.
A panel with journalists and editors from Cuba, Spain, and Argentina, including José Jassan Nieves (El Toque) and Juan Andrés Muñoz (PamploNews), will discuss strategies for hyperlocal and regional media growth. This will be followed by a gamification workshop led by Marta Planells (Telemundo) and Ramin Beheshti (The News Movement) to explore new ways to connect with younger audiences.
Later, Miguel Ángel Oliver, President of the EFE news agency, will present emerging visual narratives powered by generative AI and virtual reality.
A pre-conference specialized workshop on NotebookLM, led by Mariana Alvarado and sponsored by Google, will be held on July 15.
