Bogotá will provide the ideal setting for this new assembly. Vibrant, cosmopolitan, and experiencing a cultural renaissance, Colombia’s capital combines history, gastronomy, art, and a dynamic urban agenda. We also invite attendees to discover the city’s energy, diversity, and richness through a short invitational video prepared especially for participants. The Hilton Bogotá Hotel is located in a privileged area surrounded by top restaurants, cafés, bars, and cultural attractions.
During the General Assembly, participants will discuss some of the most relevant and urgent issues facing journalism in the region, including press freedom, media sustainability, digital transformation, and the impact of artificial intelligence on newsrooms and content production. New institutional initiatives and strategic documents promoted by IAPA to strengthen journalism and defend freedom of expression throughout the hemisphere will also be presented.
The agenda will feature prominent industry leaders. Confirmed speakers include Marc Lacey, one of the editorial leaders of The New York Times, and Luis Fernández, Chairman of NBCUniversal Telemundo Enterprises, who will share their perspectives on the challenges and opportunities facing news organizations today.
One of the most special moments of the program will commemorate the 30th anniversary of Gabriel García Márquez’s historic speech in which he described journalism as “the best job in the world” during his address to the 52nd IAPA General Assembly on October 7, 1996, in Los Angeles. To mark the anniversary, a roundtable discussion with Jaime Abello, President of the Gabo Foundation, will reflect on the enduring relevance of that message and the importance of vocation, rigor, and continuous inquiry in contemporary journalism.
Bogotá is preparing to welcome journalists, editors, media executives, and industry leaders from across the region for a new edition of the IAPA General Assembly, an essential forum for debating ideas, building consensus, and shaping the future of journalism in the Americas.
See you in Bogotá!
