Main problems for press freedom in the Americas come under review

Miami (August 6, 2012)—International press organizations meeting in Chile have urged the governments of Argentina and Ecuador to respect the unfettered circulation of information. At the same time they called other countries for reforms of public policies to put an end to violence against the press and declared that freedom of expression on the Internet should have the same protection enjoyed by traditional media.

Miami (August 6, 2012)—International press organizations meeting in Chile have urged the governments of Argentina and Ecuador to respect the unfettered circulation of information. At the same time they called other countries for reforms of public policies to put an end to violence against the press and declared that freedom of expression on the Internet should have the same protection enjoyed by traditional media.

The Coordinating Committee of Press Freedom Organizations held its half-yearly meeting in Santiago, Chile, on July 12, with the participation of representatives of the following organizations: International Association of Broadcasting (IAB), World Association of Newspapers and Editors/IFRA (WAN-IFRA), Worldwide Magazine Media Association (FIPP), World Press Freedom Committee (WPFC), Committee to Protect Journalists (CPJ), International Press Institute (IPI), Commonwealth Press Union (CPU Media Trust), and the Inter American Press Association (IAPA).
