Miami (November 30, 2012)—The Inter American Press Association (IAPA) announced today that it is to send an international delegation of the organization to Buenos Aires December 6-7 to determine the state of freedom of expression in Argentina.
The mission, responding to a resolution adopted at the IAPA’s recent General Assembly and at the request of a number of Argentine members, will be headed by Claudio Paolillo, chairman of the organization’s Committee on Freedom of the Press and Information and editor of the Montevideo, Uruguay, weekly Búsqueda.
Also in the delegation will be Fernán Molinos, La Prensa, Panama City, Panama; Elizabeth Ballantine, The Durango Herald, Durango, Colorado; Miguel Henrique Otero, El Nacional, Caracas, Venezuela; Alejandro Miró Quesada, Cosas Internacional, Lima, Peru; Asdrúbal Aguiar, El Impulso, Barquisimeto, Venezuela; Marco Zileri, Revista Caretas, Lima, Peru; Ed McCullough, Associated Press, Miami, Florida; Álvaro Caviedes, La Tercera, Santiago, Chile, and Julio Muñoz, IAPA executive director, Miami, Florida.
With the aim of gathering various points of view of the general state of freedom of expression in the South American country during its stay in the Argentine capital the international delegation plans to meet with members of the lower house of Congress and senators, representatives of the judiciary and Argentine culture, intellectuals and media executives and reporters.
