HONDURAS
The San Pedro Sula city administration refused to allow journalists access to an official report on the cost of building a sports complex for the 6th Central American Games.
La Prensa reporter Serapio Umanzor is being sued by the wife of a congressman and the mother of a judge for stories he wrote about alleged unlawful property transactions. Another La Prensa reporter, Arnulfo Aguilar, is also facing a libel suit over his investigative reporting.
Despite the government's declaration of a state of emergency in the aftermath of Hurricane Mitch, there has been no restriction of press freedom and newspapers have continued circulating freely.
