WHEREAS since 1997 the IAPA has been submitting cases of unpunished crimes against journalists to the Inter-American Commission on Human Rights (IACHR) with the objective of obtaining progess in the solving of the murders WHEREAS the IACHR has admitted the cases in Brazil of the murder of Aristeu Guida da Silva on May 12, 1995, of Zaqueu de Oliveira on March 21, 1995, of Edgar Lopes de Faria on October 29, 1997, and of Ronaldo Santana de Araújo on October 9, 1997 WHEREAS the IACHR has admitted the cases of murder in Colombia of Carlos Lajud Catalán on April 19, 1993, of Guillermo Cano on December 17, 1986, and of Nelson Carvajal Carvajal on April 16, 1998 WHEREAS the IACHR has admitted the cases of murder in Mexico of Héctor Félix Miranda on April 20, 1988, and of Manuel Oropeza on July 3, 1991 THE IAPA MIDYEAR MEETING RESOLVES to call upon the authorities of Brazil, Colombia and Mexico to show greater will to make progress in the conversations that through the mediation of the IACHR are being held on each of these cases to recognize the efforts of the IACHR in the battle against impunity in the cases of the murder of journalists in the Western Hemisphere.
