PARAGUAY-I WHEREAS on December 19 Brazilian journalist Mauro Konig, correspondent of the Brazilian daily O Estado do Paraná, was brutally tortured in Mbaracayú, 350 kilometers east of Asunción, while doing an investigative report on the recruitment of Brazilian children to do military service in police stations in the region WHEREAS taking pictures in the San Alberto police station in that region upset the authorities there WHEREAS the journalist was attacked by three people who apparently were police officers WHEREAS the police have taken no action to solve the case THE BOARD OF DIRECTORS OF THE IAPA RESOLVES to strongly condemn the attack on Brazilian journalist Mauro Konig in Paraguay to demand that the Paraguayan executive branch and judiciary detain the perpetrators and masterminds behind the attack and impose the appropriate penalties so the crime will not remain unpunished.
