PARAGUAY-II WHEREAS the national Congress is studying a bill “to regulate the publication of private information” WHEREAS the bill could be a potential brake on investigative reporting WHEREAS the bill could block the investigation of the sources of wealth accumulated improperly by public officials, politicians and private individuals associated with the power structure WHEREAS if it were approved the bill could provide a way to cover up corruption WHEREAS Principle 3 of the Declaration of Chapultepec states that, “the authorities must be compelled by law to make available in a timely and reasonable manner the information generated by the public sector; no journalist may be forced to reveal his or her sources of information” THE GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE IAPA RESOLVES to warn against the danger the bill represents for transparency of public and private administration in Paraguay to request the defeat of said bill.
