WHEREAS
Peru has withdrawn from the jurisdiction of the Inter-American Human Rights Court the Peruvian judiciary does not provide the necessary guarantees, as recognized by public opinion polls and lawyers in Lima as well as such international bodies as the office of the OAS special reporters for freedom of expression and the U.S. House of Representatives this withdrawal implies for journalists the loss of a supranational body capable of preserving the human rights necessary for the practice of journalism
THE GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE IAPA RESOLVES
to urge Peruvian President Alberto Fujimori to place Peru again under the jurisdiction of the InterAmerican Human Rights Court in order to protect the human rights of Peruvian journalists.
