WHEREAS
the VII Ibero-American Education Summit in September called upon the media "to reach agreements to ensure that the contents of their messages are not vehicles for the transmission of negative values" the Ministers of Education meeting at the summit specified that these agreements "ought to be aimed
at eliminating or reducing violence, the insinuation of consumerism, pornographic messages and corruption"
one of the media's basic missions is to inform and not to make distinctions between events as positive or negative for society
the proposal is an invitation to self-censorship or, even worse, to open up the possibility that government entities decide if messages are a "transmission of negative values"
THE GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE IAPA RESOLVES
to reject the proposal of the VII Ibero-American Education Summit to reach agreements with the media so that the contents of their messages will not be vehicles for the transmission of negative values to communicate with the education ministers who signed the declaration of Mexico, alerting them that their proposal on the "transmission of negative values" is a threat to the exercise of fundamental rights.
