Attacks on Journalists

ATTACKS ON JOURNALISTS WHEREAS a publisher and television reparter were kidnapped by guerrilla groups in Colombia journalists in Argentina, Brazil, Chile, Colombia, Mexico and Peru have been subjected to personal violence, threats of violence and imprisoned as a result of doing their jobs explosive devices were used in attacks against newspapers and individual joumalists in Colombia, Guatemala, Haiti and Peru police officers seized the equipment of a radio station in Antigua and Barbuda THE GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE IAPA RESOLVES to condemn any and all acts of violence against joumalists to demand that police and govemment officials implicated in violence and threats of violence against journalists be prosecuted and punished appropriately to call upon government officials in all these countries to recognize that these actions are assaults on the basic freedom of expression and should not be tolerated.
