CHILE
WHEREAS
the Chilean government plans shortly to introduce a press
bill in Congress, inspired by the desire to guarantee free speech but containing provisions that would put the government and parliament in the midst of the conflict between the newspaper unions and the Journalists Colegio regarding "professionalization"
The 48TH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE IAPA RESOLVES
to ask the Chilean government and its parliament to set
clear guarantees for freedom of speech and to reject, as a serious violation of such freedom, the notion that the practice of journalism should be confined to university graduates.
