CHARTER FOR A FREE PRESS WHEREAS the Charter for a Free Press adopted at the 1987 London Voices of Freedom conference called by the World Press Freedom Committee and co-sponsored by IAPA embodies freepress principles approved there by journalists from 34 countries these provisions represent fundamental principles necessary to ensure free and independent news media, stating among other things that censorship, direct or indirect, is unacceptable the fullest realization of the principles of the Charter for a Free Press is an enduring goal of IAP A for news media in all countries THE 48th GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE IAPA RESOLVES to endorse the principles of the Charter for a Free Press and urges support of these principles by all those sharing IAPA's commment to a free press and to the advancement of democratic institutions everywhere.
