LEGISLATION
WHEREAS
the legislatures and constituent assemblies of several
countries, such as Colombia, Paraguay, Peru, Chile, Brazil and
Venezuela, are considering the enactment or amendment of
press laws and the introduction of bills that would amend the
constitution or current laws relating to freedom of press and the free expression of thought several of these measures, as reported by representatives of the countries concerned, contain provisions that do or could contravene the principle of a free press
The 48TH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE IAPA RESOLVES
to declare its firmest opposition to those measures that restrict the rights of the press to comply with its duty to inform the public.
