EL SALVADOR WHEREAS • El Salvador is evaluating a press law that would require having authorization from the Finance Ministry to import newsprint and other supplies, without specifying the conditions which newspapers must meet to benefit from the law • the relatives of the five journalists who disappeared during the November 1989 offensive of the FMLN in El Salvador believe that sorne of them may still be alive and held by the subversives and that, if they died, the FMLN knows where their remains are THE 47th GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE IAPA RESOLVES • to ask the Government of El Salvador to drop from the draft legislation for a press law any provisions that in any way subject companies or journalists to official requirements in order to conduct their activities • to have the IAPA ask those organizations concerned with human rights in El Salvador to make inquiries that will satisfy the humanitarian petition of the journalists' families.
