WHEREAS
repression of all human rights in Cuba is grave and extreme, as is repression of the press
as many as 40 human rights workers and writers of samtzdat journals have been jailed and others work under the most difficult conditions
the Cuban government severely restricts the ability of journalists to cover the news
three Cubans, jailed "for giving false intormation" to foreign journalists, are being held in such inhuman conditions that two have fallen seriously ill and and have been provide inadequate treatment, that these three have been awarded the 1990 IAPA-Pedro Joaquin Chamorro Award
THE GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE IAPA RESOLVES
to call upon the Cuban government, in the name of humanity, to lift all restrictions imposed upon the most elemental rights of all human beings, and in particular to provide to Hubert Jerez Marino, Elizardo Sanchez Santa Cruz and Hiram Abt Cobas, the imprisoned men, the respect that all men and women are obliged to give one another
to call upon the Cuban government to lift repressive press restrictions and allow the international press access to its country.
