Mr. Eduardo Medina Mora
Attorney General of Mexico
Mexico City, Mexico
Dear Mr. Attorney General,
Determined to put and end to impunity in crimes against journalists the Inter American Press Association in conjunction with the international community once again calls your attention to the disappearance of journalist Alfredo Jiménez Mota two years and seven months ago.
The investigations aimed at determining the fate of the reporter for El Imparcial of Hermosillo, Sonora state, are stalled. No one responsible has been arrested or charged. There is no longer even a state attorney in charge of the inquiries. The existing information indicates that Jiménez Mota was abducted because of the articles he wrote exposing the operations of organized crime and its links to official of the Sonora state government.
We urge you to kindly arrange for a state attorney to redouble efforts in the investigation into this case so as to determine the whereabouts of Jiménez Mota and those guilty be brought to justice.
Sincerely,
