It announces 2016 Journalistic Excellence Awards. The Ecuadorean Association of Newspaper Editors and Publishers (AEDEP) obtains IAPA Press Freedom Grand Prize
MIAMI, Florida (August 25, 2016)—The Inter American Press Association (IAPA) today praised the work of news media and journalists of Argentina, Brazil, Colombia, El Salvador, Honduras, Mexico, Panama, United States and Venezuela on announcing the winners of the awards that it makes every year to stimulate excellence in journalism and the defense of freedom of expression throughout the Americas.
This year the IAPA Press Freedom Grand Prize was awarded to the Ecuadorean Association of Newspaper Editors and Publishers (AEDEP) for its ongoing defense of freedom of the press and of expression.
Marcela Noble-Herrera, chair of the IAPA Awards Committee, of Grupo Clarín, Buenos Aires, Argentina, said, "We feel very satisfied at the high participation that we achieved in this edition. The competing works reflect the relevant themes of the best journalism of the Americas: corruption, drug trafficking, violence, pollution." She added, "Along with the denunciations there are also formidable stories of hope and redemption."
The adjudication panel selected the winners in 13 categories, whose awards will be presented within the framework the IAPA's 72nd General Assembly in Mexico City to be held on October 13-17 at the Hilton Reforma Hotel.
