IAPA Midyear Meeting, March 29 to 31, 2019, Cartagena, Colombia
WHEREAS the request for defense submitted in November 2013 by eight journalists against Empresa Editoria El Comercio publishing company and others on alleged violation of the rights to freedom of expression and freedom of access to diverse information, over the acquisition made of the actions of Empresa Periodística Nacional (today Prensmart) so far has not been resolved in first instance by the Peruvian Judicial Branch, its being open for ruling since October 2018

WHEREAS The IAPA General Assembly has expressed in several resolutions its plea (General Assemblies of the years 2013 and 2016), its request (Midyear Meetings of 2017 and 2018) and its pressure (General Assembly of 2017) that the Judicial Branch of Peru resolve this petition of guardianship of constitutional rights, whose processing under requirements of the law if be preferential and subject to very reduced deadlines

WHEREAS to date the calls of the Inter American Press Association have not obtained any result within the legal timeframe.


to ask the IAPA president to head a delegation for it to meet with the head of the Judicial Branch of Peru, Dr. José Luis Lecaros Cornejo, with the aim of obtaining his commitment that the said protection process will be acted upon from this point, complying with the deadlines set by the Constitutional Procedural Code.
