WHEREAS the imprisonment of journalist Roberto de Jesús Quiñones Hace, of the website Cubanet, amounts to a new setback in respect for freedom of expression

WHEREAS the president of the Popular Supreme Tribunal threatened those who collaborate with foreign news media with application of the "Gag Law" which prescribes jail for information against the government and the economy

WHEREAS the government prohibited the administration by Cuban citizens of websites located abroad, in a clear threat to the independent media

WHEREAS there has intensified the detention of journalists and aggression of various kinds, including in the digital area, and also there are harassed citizens that provide statements for independent media

WHEREAS there was prohibited entry into the country by American journalist Michael Lavers and there was forced the departure of Claudia Ordóñez of Article 19.

THE 75th GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE IAPA RESOLVES

to demand the immediate release of journalist Roberto de Jesús Quiñones Hace and the suspension of the offenses attributed to him

to condemn the threats of the president of the Popular Supreme Tribunal against the journalists that collaborate with foreign media, as well as the prohibition to Cuban citizens of websites located abroad

to condemn the proliferation of new forms of aggression to and harassment of journalists in the digital area

to urge the government to cease the discriminatory practices that impede the entry of foreign journalists, as well as the expulsion of representatives of news media abroad.
