New post-pandemic technology disruption to be focus of SIPConnect 2022 conference

Miami (February 11, 2022) - New communication technologies driven by 5G connectivity and the disruption of the Metaverse, the explosion of new audiences in gaming and e-sports, and a special presentation by Google on reader tracking and insight tools available to publishers are some of the topics highlighted in the program of the Inter American Press Association's SIPConnect 2022 Hemispheric Digital Media Conference.

The talks and panels in virtual format will be distributed over three days, from March 15 to 17 and from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. EST. "After the nightmare of the pandemic the media are waking up in a new environment empowered by virtual reality technologies, where content development is changing radically and audiences have exploded in the new formats," said IAPA Press Institute President Ernesto Kraiselburd of El Día, La Plata, Argentina.

Guest speakers include Raymond Soto, Senior Director of Emerging Technology, USA Today Network; Amy Adams Harding, Director of Analytics and Revenue Optimization for News Publishers at Google; and Anntao Diaz, Director of Real-Time Content Insight and Google Surveys for News Publishers.

Michael Blinder, editor and owner of the US magazine Editor & Publisher, will talk about the latest transformations in newsrooms and Mauricio Cabrera, a specialist in the news industry, will give a presentation on Web 3.0 and its connotation for the media.

In another presentation, Kraiselburd will dialogue with Iván Fernández Lobo, founder and president of Gamelab, Barcelona. Spain on the topic of E-Sports.

"We will not leave aside topics such as digital subscriptions and the great advances that have been registered in audience segmentation, including the evolution of Artificial Intelligence and its different applications for the media, but without a doubt this will be one of the SIPConnect most focused on technology issues," said the president of the IAPA Internet Committee, Martha Ramos, Organización Editorial Mexicana, CDMX, Mexico.

IAPA Executive Director Ricardo Trotti announced that during the conference the results of the Survey on the State of Digital Transformation 2022, which was answered by more than 300 editors, publishers and journalists in the hemisphere, will also be presented.

Trotti added that the IAPA will hold another cycle of SIPConnect presentations in July and, also in October, during the 78th IAPA General Assembly in Madrid, Spain.

IAPA is a non-profit organization dedicated to defending and promoting freedom of the press and expression in the Americas. It comprises more than 1,300 publications from the western hemisphere; and is based in Miami, Florida, United States.
