Miami (May 8, 2024) - The Inter American Press Association (IAPA) announced that the Excellence in Journalism 2024 contest has entered its busiest phase and urged participants not to delay their applications to avoid last-minute complications. Hundreds of entries are expected to be received in the coming days from media and communications professionals from North America, Latin America, the Caribbean and Spain.

Only journalistic pieces actually published during the period between June 1, 2023 and May 31, 2024 in a daily newspaper, weekly, magazine or online publication will be considered as contestants. The closing date for submitting entries is May 31, 2024.

A jury composed of members of the IAPA Awards Committee will select the winner in each category. The first prize in each category is US$2,000 (two thousand U.S. dollars). The awards ceremony will be held during the 80th General Assembly in Córdoba, Argentina, in October 2024.

Two new categories have been included in this edition: Migration Journalism Claudio Paolillo (sponsored by La Silla Rota, Mexico) and Solutions Journalism (sponsored by La Prensa, Río Bamba, Ecuador). See here all the categories and the Contestant's Guide.
