Dates announced for the IV Global Summit on Disinformation

Miami (May 23, 2024) - The IV Global Summit on Disinformation will highlight technological innovation and media literacy to protect journalistic content and strengthen democracy, the Inter American Press Association (IAPA) announced today together with its partners in the event, the Foundation for Journalism in Bolivia and the Distrust Project in Argentina.

The summit, to be held online on September 18 and 19, will bring together journalists, researchers, academics, fact checkers, media and government representatives, civil society organizations, professors and students.

"Spaces like the one we generate in the Summit are very important to confront increasingly sophisticated schemes of false information creation. The media can and should prepare themselves to create teams specialized in disinformation and implement quality standards to review their routines," said Adrian Pino, member of the Executive Committee of the Global Disinformation Summit and director of the organization Proyecto Desconfío.

This year's program will revolve around four main themes: Strengthening democracy in the face of disinformation; Media strategies in the face of disinformation narratives; Innovation and Artificial Intelligence in the face of disinformation; and Education and AMI (Media and Information Literacy) in times of deepfakes.

The Global Disinformation Summit will once again be a major online event for those who wish to learn, develop or contribute their actions to fight falsehoods, facilitate access to reliable information, foster digital literacy and strengthen democracies.

In the coming weeks, the organizers will announce the opening of the free registration period for the event.

IAPA is a non-profit organization dedicated to defending and promoting freedom of the press and freedom of expression in the Americas. It is comprised of more than 1,300 publications in the Western Hemisphere and is headquartered in Miami, Florida, United States.
