Miami (February 19, 2025) - The Inter American Press Association (IAPA) is calling for media and journalism professionals from North America, Latin America, the Caribbean and Spain to submit entries for the Awards for Excellence in Journalism 2025. The call includes 14 categories, among them Sustainability and Digital Transformation, reflecting the challenges and advances of the sector.

The contest is open to content published in Spanish, English or Portuguese between June 1, 2024 and May 31, 2025 in newspapers, weeklies, magazines, news agencies, digital media, radio and television.

The chair of the IAPA Awards Committee, María Lorente, director for Latin America of Agence France Presse (AFP), highlighted the relevance of the continuity of the Claudio Paolillo Migration Journalism Award, which debuted in the 2024 edition. "The migration phenomenon continues to mark the pulse of relations between the north and south of the continent. It is crucial to recognize the work of journalists who document its multiple dimensions," he said.

In this call for entries, the IAPA Awards Committee is making a special appeal to media from countries with less representation in the contest, urging them to apply. "We want to receive more entries from all the countries of the hemisphere, especially from those where journalism is making its way with creativity and courage," said Lorente.

A jury made up of members of the IAPA Awards Committee will select the winners in each category. Most of the first prizes will be endowed with US$2,000. The awards ceremony will take place in October 2025, during the 81st IAPA General Assembly in Punta Cana, Dominican Republic.

As it does every year, the IAPA will award the Grand Prize for Press Freedom to a person or organization that has made significant contributions in defense of this fundamental right. The Executive of the Year and Great Friend of the Press awards will also be presented.

Participation in the contest is open to all journalists and media, without the need to be members of the IAPA. To apply, click here. You can also consult the guide for contestants and tips on how to win an Award for Excellence in Journalism.
