Miami (October 9, 2025) — The Inter American Press Association (IAPA) and Google News Initiative have launched the AI Product Lab, a program designed to promote digital transformation and the strategic adoption of artificial intelligence in Latin American newsrooms.
The initiative brings together 45 media outlets from 12 countries in an eight-month intensive process combining training, experimentation, and product development to generate tangible impact in journalism.
“This program marks a decisive step for media outlets in the region to integrate artificial intelligence strategically. The IAPA is committed to supporting journalists and media companies through this profound transformation, promoting innovation while preserving the essential values of journalism,” said Carlos Lauría, IAPA’s Executive Director.
Envisioning the future of Latin American newsrooms, the AI Product Lab began in September with the goal of strengthening media strategies, incorporating product thinking, and encouraging the responsible and efficient use of AI in daily workflows.
“We are thrilled to see the energy and commitment of AI Product Lab participants in these first sessions. At Google, we firmly believe in the transformative power of AI for the media industry and look forward to the product innovations that will emerge from this program,” said Alejandra Brambila, News Partner Manager at Google.
A Program Designed for Real Impact
Developed by Marktube Group, the AI Product Lab combines strategic training, applied practice, and hands-on support, with a focus on delivering concrete results. It aims not only to train but to transform internal capacities and generate tangible solutions from the outset.
Over eight months, participants will follow four key phases:
- Training phase: sessions with regional experts in AI and product strategy.
- Applied design phase: personalized workshops and weekly challenges to turn knowledge into real prototypes.
- Implementation phase: funding for up to 20 selected outlets to develop their projects.
- Presentation phase: showcasing results, learnings, and implemented projects.
“We designed the AI Product Lab with one goal: to make it practical and applicable. Every session, challenge, and workshop is crafted so that media organizations—regardless of their digital maturity—can complete the program with a concrete achievement,” said Ezequiel Arbusti, CEO of Marktube.
