Miami (June 27, 2025) — Three news organizations from Guatemala and El Salvador successfully increased their digital revenues and strengthened their sustainability through the Digital Revenue Accelerator, a program of the Inter American Press Association (IAPA) supported by the Google News Initiative.

Through technical consulting and personalized mentoring, the media outlets implemented key changes in their business processes, technology, and monetization strategies.

In Guatemala, Prensa Libre focused on improving its digital ecosystem by correcting structured data, optimizing Core Web Vitals, and enhancing content indexing. These actions enabled the outlet to increase programmatic revenue by 40% during the project stage.

“The Digital Revenue Accelerator had a very positive and transformative impact on our outlet, as it helped us identify technical bottlenecks, strengthen our internal capabilities, and align business objectives with clear and measurable digital strategies,” said Joan Lima, Digital Audiences Coordinator.

In El Salvador, La Prensa Gráfica revamped its digital commercial area, prioritizing a data-driven consultative approach. Through joint training sessions between the commercial and editorial teams and a redefinition of products, they increased their revenue by 14% compared to 2024 and added five new international brands.

Regarding her experience with the program, Liliana Flamenco, Coordinator of Cooperation and Projects, said: “Everything is done in accordance with the needs and goals set in each project. The guidance, mentoring, and support from the beginning are so necessary. These are the kinds of projects that help us remain sustainable as a news outlet.”

Also in El Salvador, El Diario de Hoy focused on aligning its technical and advertising metrics with a better user experience, resulting in a notable increase in site performance and accessibility.

“We were able to strengthen our technical capabilities, improve data-driven decision-making, and move toward a more efficient and profitable digital structure. The exchange with mentors and the focus on concrete results added great value to the project’s development and our organization’s digital growth,” explained Santiago Gómez, Project Manager.

El Diario de Hoy's project included code improvements and technical adjustments focused on monetization and usability, resulting in a 20-point increase in performance and a 2% rise in CTR.

“Working together with Google enables local media to advance their digital transformation, with real impacts on revenue and operational capacity,” said Carlos Lauría, IAPA Executive Director. “This program shows that with strategic support and an open mindset for change, it's possible to strengthen the economic independence of media outlets in complex environments.”

From Google, Rodrigo Bonilla, Head of News Partnerships for Spanish-speaking Latin America, commented: “Seeing the results of these three initiatives—clear objectives and effective execution—reinforces our belief in the value of our programs, given the significant and transformative impact they have on media companies. It's through partnerships that support programs like this Accelerator that we can greatly contribute to a more dynamic and resilient news ecosystem.”

“These results show what can happen when a media outlet has clarity, focus, and the right support. What these teams achieved wasn’t just a technical or commercial improvement—it was a transformation that strengthens their sustainability in the digital ecosystem,” said Ezequiel Arbusti, CEO and founder of Marktube Group.

The IAPA is a non-profit organization dedicated to defending and promoting freedom of the press and expression in the Americas. It comprises more than 1,300 publications from the western hemisphere and is based in Miami, Florida, United States.
