Countdown to the submission deadline for the IAPA Awards for Excellence in Journalism

Thirteen categories will recognize the year’s best journalistic works.

Miami (May 1) – The Inter-American Press Association today reminded media outlets and journalists in the Americas and Spain that May marks the deadline for submissions to the 2026 Awards for Excellence in Journalism, an initiative that recognizes the year’s best work in 13 categories.

The deadline for submitting entries in the contest’s three official languages—Spanish, English, and Portuguese—is May 31. You can apply by clicking here.

Only journalistic pieces actually published between June 1, 2025, and May 31, 2026, in a daily newspaper, weekly, magazine, news agency, online publication, or radio and television station will be considered for the contest. To review the contest rules, click here.

A jury composed of members of the IAPA Awards Committee will select the winner in each category. The first prize in each category is $2,000 (two thousand U.S. dollars). The awards ceremony will be held between October 22 and 25, 2026, during the 82nd IAPA General Assembly in Bogotá, Colombia.

Participation is open to all, regardless of IAPA membership. The 13 categories of the 2026 IAPA Excellence in Journalism Awards are:

The IAPA is a nonprofit organization dedicated to the defense and promotion of press freedom and freedom of expression in the Americas. It is composed of more than 1,300 publications in the Western Hemisphere and is headquartered in Miami, United States.
