For the first time, IAPA will award executives, media, and institutions that contribute to sustainable journalism and innovation

The nomination period for these awards, like those for Excellence in Journalism in 15 categories, will close on June 30.

Miami (May 4, 2023)- The Inter American Press Association (IAPA) reiterated its goal of distinguishing media outlets, executives, and institutions in four new categories within the framework of sustainable journalism. The new categories are Transformative Sustainability, Digital Transformation, Executive of the Year, and Great Friend of the Press. For more information, click here.

The new categories complement 15 other categories within the annual Excellence in Journalism competition, which includes the Grand Press Freedom Award. Reporters, photographers, columnists, infographers, videographers, cartoonists, and journalism students can register their entries until June 30 this year.

The IAPA contest, in all its categories, is open to journalists and media from the Americas and Spain. It is not necessary to be a member of the IAPA.

Regarding the awards for entrepreneurs and executives, anyone can nominate a candidate by fulfilling the requirements.

The SIP Sustentabilidad Transformadora award will be given to an original and efficient initiative or strategy of a commercial/financial nature that contributes to the sustainability of a media outlet beyond journalistic content.

The SIP Digital Transformation Award will be given to a novel and successful digital initiative, strategy, or project in the areas of subscriptions, digital marketing, sponsored journalism, audience, and vertical segmentation, events, sponsored content, micropayments, donations, readers' club, creative campaigns, innovation or transformation culture.

The SIP Executive of the Year Award will be presented to a media executive whose work, leadership, and vision are reflected in the company's performance and influence on the community it serves, whether or not in journalistic content.

The SIP Great Friend of the Press Award will be presented to an organization, institution, company or individual for its support of the media through sponsorships, loans, and donations.

The awards will be presented at the organization's General Assembly in Mexico City from November 9 to 12.
