Miami (September 25, 2026) — Twenty media organizations in Latin America will begin implementing innovative projects that combine digital video and artificial intelligence to strengthen their content, expand their audiences, and explore new opportunities for sustainability. The initiative marks a new phase for the AI Video Lab, spearheaded by the Inter-American Press Association (IAPA) with support from Google, in which the selected proposals will move from design to implementation with funding and specialized guidance.
The selected projects cover three areas of focus: growth on video platforms, the launch of new products, and the development of artificial intelligence-based solutions. Among them are media outlets seeking to establish video as a new revenue stream, newsrooms that will launch news formats and products tailored to new audiences, and teams that will redesign their editorial and business workflows to produce more and better content with the resources they have.
This phase of the program will cover both the implementation of the projects and specialized support from the team of mentors and program managers. In this way, the media organizations hope to strengthen their sustainability, diversify their revenue streams, and expand their reach on the platforms where audiences in the region now get their news.
“It’s very important for Google to support these 20 media outlets as they move from concept to actual implementation. We believe that the strategic adoption of artificial intelligence and video is key to ensuring the modernization and long-term sustainability of journalism in Latin America,” said Alejandra Brambila, News Partner Manager at Google.
“The major challenge for media organizations is not simply to incorporate new technologies, but to turn them into tools that strengthen journalism, enable better connections with audiences, and open up new avenues for sustainability. The goal of this phase of the AI Video Lab is for innovation to translate into concrete projects, lessons that can be shared, and capabilities that remain within the media organizations,” said Carlos Lauría, executive director of the IAPA.
The 20 media outlets selected for this phase are: 100% Noticias (Nicaragua), ABC Color (Paraguay), Agencia Ocote (Guatemala), Confidencial (Nicaragua), Corporación Medcom (Panama), Diario Expreso (Ecuador), Ecuavisa (Ecuador), El Nacional (Venezuela), El Regional del Zulia (Venezuela), Focos (Costa Rica), Grupo Extra (Costa Rica), La Hora (Ecuador), La Nación (Costa Rica), La Prensa (Honduras), La Prensa (Nicaragua), La Prensa Gráfica (El Salvador), Listín Diario (Dominican Republic), Revista Nómadas (Bolivia), Tu Nota (Honduras), and Venevisión (Venezuela).
The AI Video Lab, developed by Marktube, a consulting firm specializing in technology and new forms of storytelling, has supported a cohort of 41 media outlets from 11 countries—Bolivia, Costa Rica, Ecuador, El Salvador, Guatemala, Honduras, Nicaragua, Panama, Paraguay, the Dominican Republic, and Venezuela—throughout 2026.
In the first phase, the media outlets participated in a training program featuring several masterclasses on digital video strategy, storytelling, monetization, and artificial intelligence; in the second phase, they designed their project proposals with the support of mentors and program managers; and in this third phase, the selected projects move into implementation with the backing of the Stimulus Fund.
“The most valuable aspect of this phase is that the ideas are no longer just proposals on paper. Media outlets from the region are coming forward with solid projects, committed teams, and a clear vision of how video and artificial intelligence can strengthen their sustainability. Our job now is to support them so that this vision translates into concrete results,” said Ezequiel Arbusti, CEO and founder of Marktube.
The IAPA is a nonprofit organization dedicated to defending and promoting freedom of the press and freedom of expression in the Americas. It is made up of more than 1,300 media outlets in the Western Hemisphere and is headquartered in Miami, Florida, United States.
